HGV Workshop Supervisor - Cumbernauld


Farmfoods is currently seeking to recruit a Heavy Goods Vehicle Workshop Supervisor at our depot in Cumbernauld, Glasgow. This position is full time and will involve backshift work.

Our HGV Workshop Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of the maintenance of our fleet at our in-house Vehicle Maintenance Units located at our depots. The vehicles are a vital part of our distribution operation visible to thousands of customers and potential customers whilst out on the road delivering goods to our 300+ stores.



The Role:


This is a hands-on role to support a small team of mechanics with responsibilities including:


  • Stock audits and ordering parts
  • Health and Safety responsibility for workshop and VMU staff
  • Equipment check monitoring
  • Providing an end of shift/VOR report to Transport and Fleet Manager
  • Development of the VMU team, including Apprentices
  • Management of annual leave requests
  • Managing weekly time sheets for VMU including assistance with weekly hours forecast
  • Aim for first time repair and provide sound cost effective repair solutions
  • Maintain strong MOT pass rate, aiming for 100%
  • Taking vehicles for MOT test, Class 1 licence
  • Quality control
  • Assisting with disciplinary proceedings or investigations
  • Accident reporting, in line with Company procedures
  • Ensuring fleet compliance in line with our Operators Licence obligations and company policy by use of our in-house maintenance planner (full training will be given)


About You:


The successful candidate will have:


  • Class 1 licence
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Sound industry knowledge, including current MOT legislation and testers manual
  • Minimum of City and Guilds level 3 or equivalent


The following would be an advantage:


  • Previous experience in a distribution or fleet environment
  • Knowledge and experience of working with tail lifts
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Fridges
  • Knowledge and experience of working on Mercedes Trucks
  • Knowledge and experience of diagnostic systems
  • Previous Health and Safety representative experience
  • Strong trailer knowledge, ABS/EBS systems, air suspension, etc.
  • Experience of developing a high performing team
