Our client, a transport business in the logistics sector, is looking to to recruit an Operations Manager.
LOCATION - Manchester
HOURS – Minimum 45 hours per week
START/ FINISH TIMES – Likely to be between 7am and 7pm
DAYS WORKED – Monday to Friday. Occasional weekends.
SALARY – Circa £38k to £40k + car allowance + benefits.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 - To deliver the daily plan ensuring maximum earnings and vehicle utilisation.
2 - To take responsibility for the minimisation of issues with customers and to ensure full liaison when necessary relating to running late, traffic problems and any concerns that may affect the delivery quality of the task.
3 - Ensure that the Depot finds suitable reloads, and to subcontract work as required.
4 - To ensure that drivers/contractors’ hand in the correct load documentation and that appropriate de-briefing is carried out.
5 - To ensure that the Depots’ drivers and vehicles are operated to the required
legal standards including presenting vehicles and trailers as required for maintenance.
6 - Ensure that all driver resources are controlled and used effectively.
7 - Ensure that the operation runs in a professional and efficient manner
and that all trunks are planned in and leave on time.
1 - Work with the other Company depots to ensure cross fertilisation of knowledge on each function within the front desk operation which will ensure the best use of Company resources.
2 – Spend time developing your team providing support and guidance where appropriate.
3 – Ensure that all financial reporting for the Depot is completed and available when required ie wages information, P&L etc.
4 - Take responsibility and continually review procedures and processes for any of the above tasks under your control
5 - Ensure that housekeeping within the department is of a very high standard l times and ensure health and safety procedures and legislation are always observed.
6 - Develop and promote the use of IT systems within the department in conjunction with the General Manager and the IT/Logistics Department.
7 - Ensure the protection and good care of all the Company’s assets and intellectual property and that there is no misappropriation of either by any of the staff for whom you are responsible.
8 - To promote a culture of training and development across the department.
9 - Implement and maintain reporting mechanisms to ensure that operational information (financial and operational ie weekly P&L, wages information) is available to the General Manager and Board as appropriate.

SPECIFIC WORK BASED SKILLS:
1 - Must hold UK Transport Managers CPC
2 - Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing

6 - Be a good forward planner and have good organisational skills
7 - Understand the need for consistency
8 - Show proficiency in Microsoft Software Packages, Mandata, Alliance etc
