Both the RHA and FTA have bemoaned the decision, claiming that it was key in attracting new drivers into the industry.

New Mercedes-Benz boss to take his HGV test.

New Mercedes-Benz boss Mike Belk will be spending the next two weeks learning how to drive a lorry.

"Hopefully by early May I'll be fully qualified," says Belk, who believes it's vital for someone in his role to have their HGV licence.

"I already fully understand the workshop side of the business and the challenges of keeping trucks on the road" says Belk, who spent several years as MD of UK customer services before then heading up the manufacturer's Middle East division for five years.
