UP to 200 jobs are on offer as Nissan’s Sunderland factory hosts a recruitment day.
The event, on Saturday, comes as the plant gears up for the busiest period in its 26-year history, with preparations well under way for the introduction of four new models.
As well as the electric Leaf, the Japanese car giant has also recently announced Sunderland will build a new version of the Qashqai, a new B-segment car based on the Invitation concept and a new, as yet unnamed hatchback alongside the Juke.
The plant is looking to recruit up to 200 staff in areas including production management, engineering, maintenance, information systems and logistics .
Kevin Fitzpatrick, Nissan’s vice-president for manufacturing in the UK, said: “The popularity of the Nissan Qashqai and the Nissan Juke has meant our Sunderland plant has achieved record production in each of the last two years, both of which were UK industry records.
“Four new models have now been announced for the plant. As a result, we are recruiting up to 200 specialist staff.
“I would encourage anyone interested in furthering their career at the UK’s biggest car plant to attend this Specialist Recruitment Day or to visit our website www.careersatnissan.co.uk for all current vacancies.”
The specialist recruitment day takes place between 10am and 2pm.
Potential candidates will have the chance to meet Nissan staff from their area of interest and find out in an informal setting about all opportunities.
The recent new car announcements will create more than 3,000 new jobs within the next two years .
Of those, 625 will be at Nissan and the remainder across the plant’s supply base, much of which is based in the North East.
Recruitment for the new models will take the Sunderland workforce to a record 6,225 and see the plant turning out more than 550,000 cars a year.
To cope, Nissan is launching an additional shift which will see both production lines operating around the clock for the first time in the plant’s history.
